The Brandner Kaspar Defies Death at the Augsburg Puppet Theater
When the witty Brandner Kaspar meets the Boandlkramer, a comical and touching theater evening begins at the Augsburg Puppet Theater. On November 14, 2026, the Bavarian folk play combines wordplay, puppetry, and the big question about the value of life.
Cherry Brandy, Card Game, and a Deal with Death
With a bottle of cherry brandy and a card game, Brandner Kaspar tries to outwit death. The Boandlkramer does not appear as an abstract figure of horror, but as a stubborn opponent in a game full of cunning, defiance, and Bavarian zest for life. From the initially cheerful duel arises a poetic confrontation with finitude, fate, and the longing for more time.
Bavarian Stage Art with Puppets and Poetry
The production of the Augsburg Puppet Theater brings the well-known material by Kurt Wilhelm to life in a special theatrical atmosphere. Set design, character handling, lighting mood, and acoustics merge into a distinctive stage world where every movement carries narrative weight. The time-honored art of puppetry gives the folk play a unique perspective between grotesqueness, warmth, and quiet contemplation.
A Comedy with Depth
Behind the hearty humor lies a precise dramaturgy: Brandner gains time while simultaneously losing the certainty of controlling his own decisions. A glimpse into paradise shifts the perspective on earthly life. It is precisely in this shift between comical situations and existential questions that the lasting impact of the piece lies.
An Evening for Theater Lovers Aged Twelve and Up
The Augsburg Puppet Theater recommends the performance for ages twelve and up. The stage experience is aimed at culturally interested adults as well as teenagers who want to discover theater as a interplay of acting, character handling, and pictorial storytelling.
Conclusion: A Reunion with a Bavarian Classic
The Brandner Kaspar and the Eternal Life promises a theater evening full of laughter, wonder, and quiet melancholy. Those who want to experience how a classic gains new power through puppetry, stage design, and theater poetry should discover this performance live at the Augsburg Puppet Theater.
