On October 1, 2026, Augsburg transforms into an open space for thought and performance: BUEN VIVIR – defending the "Good Life" combines a historical performance, discussions with land defenders from Abya Yala, shared vegan meals and live music into an evening of theater, political conversation, and solidarity.
History becomes a lively stage action
The event kicks off at 5 PM with the Augsburg Tribunal I at Welserplatz. The historical performance looks back at 500 years of peasant uprisings in Europe and asks how a city can publicly remember its past. The production treats memory not as a rigid monument but as an open dramaturgy where historical experiences, contemporary perspectives, and social responsibility converge.
Voices from Abya Yala: Autonomy and Dignity
Starting at 7:30 PM, the event centers the struggles for land, self-determination, and dignity in Mesoamerica. Esther Sulub and Mabel Robledo share insights from the perspective of land defenders from Abya Yala. Their exchange leads to discussions of colonial continuities in Europe and the Global South, opening a space for questions of exploitation, solidarity, and resistance practices.
Buen Vivir as a counter-model
At the heart of the discussion is the concept of Buen Vivir, the good life for all.
