A cosmic time travel through 13.8 billion years

On November 21, 2026, the Sparkassen-Planetarium Augsburg opens a view into the greatest questions of humanity: How did the universe come into existence, when did the Milky Way, the Sun, and the Earth form – and how did life eventually develop into humans?

From the Big Bang to the first stars

The planetarium show takes the audience through the vast timeframes of cosmic evolution. Impressive fulldome images make visible how the universe developed from its earliest beginnings and how stars, galaxies, and planetary systems emerged. The dome transforms into an immersive experience space where scientific insights meet aesthetic experience.

The formation of the Earth and life

The time travel continues with the formation of the Earth. Massive star explosions, cosmic matter, and catastrophic impacts from comets illustrate the dynamic processes that led to the emergence of our planet. The show combines astronomy, geology, paleontology, and biology into a vivid narrative of Earth's history.

From dinosaurs to humans

In the work view of the cosmic images, the defining stages of evolution also appear: the development of life, the world of dinosaurs, and other beings from prehistory. At the end, the focus shifts to the evolution of humans up to the present day. More than 20 scientists from astronomy, geology, paleontology, and biology provided advisory support to this collaborative production.

Science as a sensory artistic experience

The planetarium connects scientific communication with a strong exhibition atmosphere. Light, spatial effects, and moving images create an intense artistic experience that makes complex research results comprehensible and emotionally tangible. The presentation lasts approximately 60 to 70 minutes and combines the planetarium film with a live-moderated part on the current night sky.

Conclusion: A journey to the origins of our existence

“Time Travel - From the Big Bang to Humans” offers cultural education, astronomical expertise, and an impressive aesthetic experience under the planetarium dome. Art enthusiasts, families, and curious science friends experience Augsburg's universe right in the city – an evening that makes one's place in the history of the cosmos seem newly apparent.
