Frida VR: Experience Frida Kahlo's World of Images as an Immersive Ballet

With Frida VR, the Augsburg State Theater invites you to an extraordinary art experience in the martini-Park. Ricardo Fernando transforms his ballet about the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo into an immersive virtual reality experience, where dance, painting, 3D animation, and sound merge into a multifaceted digital stage space.

An Aesthetic Experience Between Body, Color, and Movement

The audience does not sit in front of a distant stage but experiences the action up close. Dance movements, glances, and emotional tensions come almost tangibly to the center of perception. The VR headset alters the classic theater perspective: Every head movement opens a new viewpoint, every moment directs focus to different bodies, shapes, and relationships.

Frida Kahlo as a Strong and Vulnerable Image Figure

Frida Kahlo transformed her life into painting. Her self-portraits combine physical vulnerability, personal strength, natural motifs, and symbolic image spaces. Frida VR does not tell a linear biography; rather, it condenses the central tensions of her art: joy of life and pain, closeness and loneliness, beauty and vulnerability.

Painting Meets Virtual Reality

The production connects Ricardo Fernando's choreography with Kahlo's painted works and specially developed 3D animations. Colors, figures, plants, and animals appear in a digital image space that unfolds like a moving painting. The artwork's observation becomes a physical experience: The audience mentally navigates through a world where reality and imagination blend together.

A Total Work of Art of Digital Theater

For the VR production, Pascal Seibicke is responsible for stage and costumes, David Nigro for sound design, Marco Vitale for lighting, and Benjamin Seuffert for VR concept, camera, and editing. The Augsburg Ballet is involved. The approximately 45-minute experience shows how curation, dance theater, and digital technology can create new forms of cultural education.

Conclusion: Frida Kahlo Up Close

Frida VR promises an intense art experience for all who wish to experience dance, painting, and digital media in a new way. The exhibition atmosphere is created not by a static museum, but by an immersive space of movement, color, sound, and closeness. Anyone wanting to experience Frida Kahlo's art as a sensual and emotional visual language should attend this special VR production live at the martini-Park.
