S-Planetarium Augsburg | Tickets & Seating Plan
Many search queries about the S-Planetarium Augsburg revolve around tickets, seating, photos, reviews, directions, and parking, and these topics ultimately determine how quickly a visitor moves from the first search to booking. The planetarium is located in the center of Augsburg in the Natural History Museum, on the 5th floor, with a visitor entrance at Ludwigstraße 14 at the corner of Ludwigstraße/Grottenau. It is a compact, very clearly structured place: only 70 seats, no free seating in the classical sense, a fixed schedule, and an experience tailored to the 360° dome. Those looking for a location that combines science, immersive projection, and urban location will find an unusually dense mix of education, experience, and well-organized visitor guidance here. Additionally, the venue is not only used for classical planetarium shows but also for cultural evenings, readings, concerts, and special formats. This variety makes the S-Planetarium Augsburg relevant for search engines, as it provides answers for both informative and emotional search intentions. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/kontakt/anfahrt/))
Tickets, Reservations, and Seat Selection
Regarding tickets, the S-Planetarium Augsburg relies on a very practical mix of online purchase, box office sales, and telephone reservations. According to official information, tickets can be purchased online, and direct seat selection is possible in the online ticket system. Telephone reservations are also provided, with reserved seats needing to be picked up 15 minutes before the event starts. Unclaimed tickets will go back on sale. For concerts and special events, reservations are generally not possible; a specifically mentioned exception is QUEEN - Heaven. This logic is important for visitors as it shows that the planetarium consciously keeps its capacity tight and strongly ties the purchasing process to the specific event. Therefore, those looking for a secure seat should not speculate on last-minute tickets but book early. This is particularly relevant on weekends, during holidays, or for popular themed evenings when demand rises faster than the available number of seats. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/preise-und-leistungen/reservierungen/))
The pricing structure is also clearly and transparently organized. Regular tickets start at 9.50 euros for those aged 18 and over, reduced tickets are 7.00 euros, and the family ticket is valid for up to five people with one to two adults and children up to 17 years old. For groups of ten or more, discounted prices are available, and when visiting the Natural History Museum with a museum ticket from the same day, a discount on planetarium tickets is granted. Special prices apply for special events, such as music shows, concerts, readings, or theater evenings. From an SEO perspective, this price variety is interesting because users often search not only for a general ticket but also for family tickets, group prices, or combination tickets. The S-Planetarium Augsburg covers these search intentions well, as the pricing logic is publicly documented and logically connects with the various usage scenarios. Those planning a visit should also note that purchased tickets are non-refundable and lose their validity if not used. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/preise-und-leistungen/preise/))
Another practical point is the ticket requirement for each individual person. According to official guidelines, every person from 0 years old needs a ticket, as even toddlers count towards the allowable visitor limit. This is particularly important for families as it avoids misunderstandings and keeps the booking process clean. Telephone-reserved seats are automatically assigned by the box office system to the best available seats, so there is no free seating choice with this booking method. Online, however, one can select seats directly, which is a more pleasant option for many visitors. Additionally, the shopping cart in the online system is emptied after 15 minutes if the purchase is not completed. These details show that the S-Planetarium uses a modern but strictly regulated ticket architecture. This makes the location highly relevant for search queries around tickets: those wanting to quickly understand how to get tickets will find a clear, comprehensible structure instead of a confusing booking jungle. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/preise-und-leistungen/preise/))
Seating Plan, Capacity, and Accessibility
The S-Planetarium Augsburg is small enough to feel personal and large enough to provide a real dome experience. The capacity is 70 seats, and this number is also strictly determined by fire safety regulations. There are no standing or lap seats, as every visitor counts towards the maximum allowable occupancy. This may seem strict at first glance, but it benefits the quality of the experience: visitors sit in a clearly defined dome arrangement, and the seating plan shows the positions in the dome. Additionally, there are two designated spaces for wheelchairs in the dome. This means the location is not only aimed at an immersive audience experience but also at a functional, comprehensible visitor organization. Those looking for a seating plan usually want to know if there are good viewing seats, if one can sit comfortably with children, and how the available space is distributed. The planetarium's answer is clear: every seat is designed for the central upward view, and the spatial shape of the dome ensures that the projection remains well-experienced from every seat. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/wichtige-informationen/))
Accessibility is also well documented. The planetarium is accessible by elevator, and official information points out that there are two designated spaces for wheelchairs in the dome. Additionally, possible limitations are transparently noted, such as sensitivity to light in photosensitive epilepsy, as visual and acoustic effects are part of the program. Furthermore, visitors must store bags, purses, backpacks, and jackets in lockers or the cloakroom area for fire safety reasons. Eating and drinking are not allowed in the dome. These rules may sound strict, but they are typical for a place designed for focused viewing and listening. From an SEO perspective, this is important because many users search for accessible, wheelchair-friendly, or seating plan and expect concrete answers here. The S-Planetarium Augsburg provides these answers very clearly and without unnecessary detours. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/wichtige-informationen/))
Another advantage for visitors lies in the comfort of the dome. The air-conditioned hall has a diameter of 10 meters, and the seats are described as comfortable armchairs with partially reclining backs. This may sound mundane, but it is crucial for staying in a projection dome, as the gaze remains directed upwards for extended periods. The combination of comfortable seating, fixed structure, and clear visitor numbers creates a calm, almost concentrated atmosphere. Those unfamiliar with the S-Planetarium might expect a classic cinema logic; in reality, it is more of a precisely organized spatial experience where visibility, acoustics, and freedom of movement are harmonized. That is why the seating plan is not a secondary topic but one of the most important SEO points for the location. The question is not only where one sits but how each seat in the dome feels. And this feeling is shaped by the architecture and clear visitor guidance. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/technik/))
Directions, Parking, and Opening Hours
The journey to the S-Planetarium Augsburg is simple because the location is centrally situated in the heart of the city and directly connected to a well-known museum building. The official visitor entrance is located at Ludwigstraße 14 at the corner of Ludwigstraße/Grottenau. Additionally, the location is described as an entrance at the northern end of the pedestrian zone. The planetarium is located in the Natural History Museum and is situated on the 5th floor. For Google searches related to Ludwigstraße Augsburg, this address is particularly relevant as it not only provides a house number but also the urban context: pedestrian zone, museum building, and immediate city center location. Those visiting the building for the first time benefit from clear orientation and short paths. This is especially helpful during evening events or holiday periods, as it allows for a good combination of the visit with a city walk or a museum visit. For many users, this is exactly the desired information that facilitates a booking decision. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/kontakt/anfahrt/))
When it comes to parking, the official directions page lists three sensible options in the immediate vicinity: the Ludwiggarage at Ludwigstraße 28, the Augusta-Garage at Thäle 5 with direct access to the Natural History Museum and planetarium, and the parking garage at Ernst-Reuter-Platz 2. Additionally, several public transport stops are mentioned, namely Staatstheater, Rathausplatz, and Karlstraße, each with the appropriate tram and bus lines. This makes the location attractive for different travel situations, whether arriving by car, tram, or bus. It is also practical for families or visitors with less local knowledge, as the journey is not limited to a single garage but leaves several alternatives open. For SEO, this is important because the combination of directions, parking, and public transport is a classic search block that visitors often check before purchasing tickets. The S-Planetarium Augsburg answers these questions very directly and with real addresses instead of general hints. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/kontakt/anfahrt/))
The opening hours are intentionally event-based. The planetarium can only be visited in conjunction with shows, and the planetarium dome is only open during the scheduled times listed in the program. Outside of these show times, no entry is possible, and the box office hours do not equate to the visiting time in the dome. There are no public shows on Mondays except on holidays. The box office is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and during evening events; on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, it closes at 5:00 PM for evening events and reopens an hour before the start. This is an important distinction for planning, as the actual visit is not simply possible during the entire daytime opening hours but remains tied to the show times. Therefore, those searching for opening hours actually need show times, and the venue communicates this clearly. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/kontakt/%C3%B6ffnungszeiten/))
Technology, Dome, and History
The history of the S-Planetarium Augsburg begins early and is closely linked to the educational function of the institution. According to the official technology page, the city savings bank established an educational institution in 1986 with the Sparkassen-Planetarium Foundation of the City of Augsburg to convey astronomical knowledge. After the installation of projection and audio technology in a dome on the 5th floor of the Natural History Museum, the first public show took place on February 22, 1989. This makes the venue not only an event location but also a long-term knowledge place with its own development. For search queries related to history, background, or special features, this classification is central, as the planetarium was not simply created as an event space but as a firmly anchored place for astronomical education. The official statement that the dome hall has a diameter of 10 meters and offers 70 comfortable seats is also an important part of this profile. The venue is thus small but not improvised, rather precisely planned. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/technik/))
Technically, the planetarium has evolved multiple times. In the first phase, there was an optical-mechanical Zeiss projector for stars and planets, as well as 40 slide projectors for image and panorama projection. Later, the first fulldome system in southern Germany was established, including realistic fulldome video, a digital Sky-Skan projection system, video channels, control systems, and surround sound. Since 2018, the system has been operating with two 4K laser-based projectors, improving image quality, brightness, and color contrasts. Additionally, new server computers, revised audio components, and a microphone system for live presentations have been added. From a visitor's perspective, this means: the dome is not just a room but a technologically advanced projection environment designed for immersive star and space experiences. This technology also explains why so many users search for photos, videos, or impressions. The visual impact is an essential part of the product. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/technik/))
Particularly interesting is the combination of historical substance and modern technology. The Zeiss projector object from the early phase is now on display in the entrance area, while the fulldome technology brings current shows to the entire dome surface. This makes the visit not only a presentation but also a small technical and historical experience. The official website also speaks of a 360° dome projection that allows for a free panoramic view and creates the impression of an immersive space. This wording is valuable for search engines and visitors alike, as it describes the unique spatial quality that distinguishes the S-Planetarium from ordinary presentation rooms. Particularly in combination with the central location in the Natural History Museum, the manageable capacity, and the live moderation, a profile emerges that is clearly recognizable in Augsburg. The venue is thus not only technically modern but also historically credible and institutionally grown. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/technik/))
Programs, Shows, and Live Experience
The current program of the S-Planetarium Augsburg is divided into several clear categories: astronomy and knowledge shows, children and family shows, culture and entertainment shows, live events, and English shows. This structure shows that the venue is not just a classic educational planetarium but a versatile event location with a broad target audience. Regularly updated schedules and a program flyer are also available online. The homepage also highlights special themed evenings, concerts, and cultural specials. From an SEO perspective, this thematic diversity is very important, as search queries like program, schedule, or tickets are usually associated with a specific expectation: What is currently running, for whom is it suitable, and how long does it last? The S-Planetarium answers these questions with a program model that combines education, entertainment, and event character. Therefore, those planning an evening at the planetarium can expect both a scientific focus and an artistic format. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/?direct=true))
According to official information, the regular shows typically last about 60 to 70 minutes. They consist of a combination of a live-moderated part about the current night sky and the planetarium film announced in the schedule. Depending on the length of the film, the live part is adjusted to ensure the total duration is maintained. In the case of special live presentations on current topics, the duration may also exceed 90 minutes. This is an important point as it prepares visitors for a real event rhythm and explains the difference between standard presentations and special formats. A staff member is always present in the hall during the show to moderate. This makes the experience more personal than a mere film start and simultaneously creates the impression of a guided evening under the dome. Many visitors specifically seek this combination of information and atmosphere, and the S-Planetarium offers it in a structured manner. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/wichtige-informationen/))
The thematic range of the programs is also remarkable. According to the official description, children's programs can be designed as exciting adventure stories, while programs for teenagers and adults are more documentary in nature and may include a narrative framework. The content covers the formation of stars and planets, the development of life on Earth, the distant future of the universe, space and earth sciences, excursions into the microcosm, and even music star theater. This shows that the term planetarium is understood here not only astronomically but also culturally and pedagogically. This breadth makes the venue relevant for searches, as people are not only looking for star projections but also for special experience formats, family offers, or live events. The location offers an unusually dense and clearly communicated selection for this. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/wichtige-informationen/))
Natural History Museum, Prices, and Practical Visitor Tips
The S-Planetarium Augsburg greatly benefits from its location in the Natural History Museum, as both institutions work together under one roof. Therefore, those visiting the planetarium find themselves in a building that connects culture, natural history, and astronomy. This is practical for visitors as it allows for a meaningful day trip or a double visit. The official price overview explicitly mentions a museum discount on planetarium tickets when a museum ticket is presented on the same day. This is a real advantage for search queries related to combination tickets, family visits, or excursion ideas. For visitors to Augsburg looking for a central indoor activity, this combination is attractive: a short distance, a clear entry process, and a contextually coherent environment. The official homepage also refers to the Natural History Museum as the second institution in the same building. This creates a visit experience that does not function in isolation but is embedded in a larger museum context. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/?direct=true))
For practical planning, it is worth looking at the rules on-site. Timely ticket purchase or reservation is recommended as the number of seats is limited. The dome can only be entered during the scheduled show times, and no entry is allowed after the event has started. This is also important for visitors coming from the city center or planning their journey with parking and public transport. Those traveling with family should also remember that a ticket is required for each person, including toddlers. There is no free lap seat logic, as the capacity is strictly limited to 70 people for fire safety reasons. The combination of early booking, clear seat assignment, and fixed show times may be less spontaneous than at other locations, but this structure ensures that the process runs smoothly. This is often a plus in practice, as visitors do not have to improvise on-site. ([s-planetarium.de](https://www.s-planetarium.de/ueber-uns/wichtige-informationen/))
Additionally, visitors should be aware of the small but important comfort rules. Bags, backpacks, and jackets must be stored in the cloakroom or locker area, eating and drinking are not allowed in the dome, and during peak times, telephone accessibility may be limited. At the same time, visitor guidance is friendly and transparent: there is a shared box office with the Natural History Museum, online ticketing with direct seat selection, and a clearly described telephone service. Special offers are available for schools and kindergartens, and even a private presentation can be booked. This makes it clear that the planetarium is not only intended for classic evening visitors but remains open to different target groups and formats. This strengthens the profile of the location in the SEO context, as search engine terms like tickets, program, seating plan, directions, and opening hours are not isolated here but connected through real visitor information. Those who adhere to the official guidelines will receive a very focused, impressive experience under the dome in return.

We visited the planetarium on Sunday with our four-year-old son and attended the show for ages 4 and up – and it was truly a wonderful experience! 🌟 We spontaneously got 2 tickets on-site. Even before the actual story, the current night sky was shown and the upcoming solar eclipse was discussed. The story itself was super interesting and really well done for my son. As a highlight, there was even a little "roller coaster ride" afterwards – that was especially well received. 😄 Overall, everything is designed with a lot of love and variety. Additionally, it’s pleasantly cool and well-tempered in the planetarium, so you can spend wonderful time there even in great heat. A small note: In the back outer row, the seats don’t lean back as far, so you sit more upright there. In the middle seats, however, you can lean back nicely and relax while looking at the dome above you. We really enjoyed it and my son was totally thrilled. A great experience for young and old – we will definitely come back! ⭐️🌌
