An emerald green adventure between fantasy and self-worth
On the second day of Christmas, the gate to Oz opens in the martini-Park: The State Theatre Augsburg presents Sergej Gößner's family piece The Wizard of Oz based on Lyman Frank Baum. The modern production combines magical stage art with pop cultural impulses and tells the story of a young heroine who discovers her own worth on an extraordinary journey.
Doro follows the path of the six emeralds
Doro often feels alone. Her father works at night, she is little interested in other children, and her imagination initially finds a home mainly in the mobile world of Emerald City. Then, an emerald green hot air balloon appears at her window and takes her to the mysterious land of Oz.
To return home, Doro must collect six emeralds and bring them to the Wizard of Oz. Along her way, she meets a scatterbrained scarecrow, a lovesick tin woman, and a lion who lacks courage. A contemporary journey about friendship, courage, and self-worth emerges from the familiar fairy tale motif.
A production with wit, music, and vibrant images
Annette Müller directs and, together with her team, creates a colorful theatrical world where the magical atmosphere meets today's realities. The set design by Julia Nussbaumer, costumes by Lise Kruse, music by Michael Lohmann, and lighting design by Ron Heinrich give the journey through Oz its own sensual signature.
The dramaturgy by Melanie Pollmann gently guides the young audience through a story full of comical encounters and emotional twists. The acting of Franka Forkel as Doro, as well as Thomas Prazak, Jenny Langner, Mehdi Salim, Jannis Roth, and Katja Sieder, brings the characters to life between fantasy figures and human search movements.
Family theater with a contemporary perspective
Gößner's adaptation takes the classic by Lyman Frank Baum seriously while translating it into the present. The path to Oz becomes a playful test: self-worth appears as the highest game goal, while the characters realize that heart, mind, and courage are not given from the outside.
The stage experience is aimed at visitors aged eight and above. The performance during the Christmas season promises a theatrical atmosphere full of fantasy, musical impulses, and vibrant images – a shared cultural moment for families, children, and anyone who has preserved the magic of theater.
