Repair instead of throw away: The Repair Café at Habitat gives items a second chance
On Saturday, November 21, 2026, Habitat near Glaspalast in Augsburg will transform from 12:00 to 17:00 into an open workshop for sustainable ideas, collaborative tinkering, and practical help. At the Repair Café, visitors bring defective personal belongings and seek solutions together with volunteer repair experts.
Workshop atmosphere with knowledge, tools, and community
Whether electronics, wood, small furniture, bicycles, textiles, metal, or small electrical devices: Habitat provides suitable tools, materials, and experienced supporters. The focus is on helping others to help themselves. The event imparts repair knowledge, strengthens the conscious handling of everyday items, and demonstrates how a seemingly useless favorite piece can be transformed back into a useful companion.
A sustainable event experience in Augsburg
The event atmosphere remains personal, relaxed, and open. Between concentrated troubleshooting, conversations, and the sound of tools, a special audience vibe develops. Coffee, cake, and cookies sweeten the waiting time while visitors learn from each other and exchange experiences around technology, craftsmanship, and sustainable consumption.
Together against the throwaway society
The Repair Café is organized by the non-profit organization Das Habitat, which operates an open makerspace and communal workshops at Glaspalast. The format combines organization, event management, and practical sustainability with a clear target audience approach: Those are welcome who do not quickly dispose of defective items, but rather want to understand their functioning and participate as much as possible in their repair.
Please bring a maximum of two items. Registration is usually not necessary. Not suitable are, among others, cars, motorcycles, dangerous items, and very large electrical appliances like washing machines, refrigerators, or televisions. There is no guarantee of a successful repair.
Conclusion: Join in, learn, and save your favorite pieces
The Repair Café at Habitat offers an event experience with real added value: practical support, professional exchange, and a sustainable idea that continues to have an impact in everyday life. Those who wish to repair together, share knowledge, and conserve resources in Augsburg will experience repair culture up close. Just come by and bring your items back to the workbench.
