In the Light of the New Day: A Literary Journey between Forest, Past, and Truth
When the paths of two women connect over generations in the Bohemian Forest, an evening full of tension, memory, and subtle undertones begins. At sunsets & books, Jarka Kubsova is a guest with her novel In the Light of the New Day and talks about justice, female authorship, and the courage to face repressed truths.
A Story that Leads Deep into the Forest
The focus is on Elli Hajek, who retreats to a remote house to write. There, she recalls Viktorka, a young woman who was declared insane after a serious event and lived alone in the Bohemian Forest. When Elli realizes that Viktorka actually existed, she travels to the country from which she fled as a child.
Among glowing ferns and a roaring river, the search for the past becomes a personal journey. Before Elli learns the whole truth about Viktorka, she must confront her own repressed history. The event combines reading and discussion into a concentrated literary experience with an emotional atmosphere.
Jarka Kubsova in Conversation
Jarka Kubsova was born in 1977 in the former Czechoslovakia and has lived in Germany since 1987. She worked as a journalist, ghostwriter, and co-author of several successful non-fiction books.
