Drawing in the Museum: A Workshop that Sharpens the Eye

At the Roman Museum Augsburg, the art experience on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 1 to 2 PM becomes an in-depth examination of works with pencil and paper. The workshop invites young people from the age of 15 and adults to not only see artworks and objects but to decode them in lines, shapes, and proportions.

See Like a Drawer

Those who draw slow down their observation. This is precisely the aesthetic experience of this offering: forms become more precise, details emerge, materiality and spatial effect gain presence. Accompanied by art educator Katharina Leitl, observations are created that go beyond mere depiction and provide direct access to composition, color design, and structure.

The Museum as Studio

The place itself shapes the atmosphere. In the Roman camp in the armory, archaeological collections, historical objects, and creative practice encounter one another. This connection of museum pedagogy and artistic practice makes the workshop an educational offering with special depth. The focus on Roman testimonies of city history becomes the starting point for one's own drawing decisions.

Practical, Open, and Focused

Participants should bring a sketchbook of at least A4 size and pencils or colored pencils; an iPad can also be used. The open format without registration lowers the threshold and creates space for spontaneous participation. The workshop fee is 5 Euros.

Why the Visit is Worth It

Drawing in the museum combines concentration, historical education, and creative freedom. Those who trace the objects in the room with their hands experience the collection and exhibition in a new way. This workshop promises not a fleeting glance, but an intensive, personal, and inspiring encounter with art and object culture. A visit is definitely worthwhile, as one's own visual language emerges from careful observation.
