Between Deep Sea and Thread Space: Art Stories at the Cultural Center abraxas
On Saturday, November 14, 2026, the Cultural Center abraxas in Augsburg opens its rooms for the exhibition Strangers in the Night – On the Blue Thread. From 14:00 to 20:00, the jewelry objects of Renate Knauer meet the thread and space installations of Mathias Wolf. Admission is free.
Bioluminescence as Jewelry Sculpture
Renate Knauer dedicates her series Strangers in the Night to the mysterious beings of the deep sea. Her jewelry objects capture the quirky shapes, intense colors, and fragile beauty of marine flora and fauna. Opals, fibers, and butterfly wings under rock crystal domes translate transparency and the glow of bioluminescence into a distinct language of forms.
Knauer's works move between painting, jewelry art, and sculpture. Jewelry is understood not only as a wearable object but also as a sensually experienced art form, where nature observation, material aesthetics, and cultural education converge. For the first time, the artist also presents jewelry objects for children in this context.
Threads, Depth, and Spherical Spaces
Mathias Wolf focuses in On the Blue Thread on the spatial effect of threads and thread strands. From the linear material, reliefs, three-dimensional spaces, and spherical visions emerge. The installation demands a slow contemplation of the work: Depending on the viewpoint, the density, depth, and spatial effect of the delicate constructions change.
Wolf studied free graphics at the University of Applied Sciences for Design in Kiel and has been working since 1981 with space installation, sculpture, and painting. His often large-scale indoor and outdoor installations combine material, architecture, and movement. In Augsburg, this artistic practice appears on a smaller scale and generates a concentrated, almost floating exhibition atmosphere.
An Art Experience Between Material and Imagination
The exhibition connects two different yet related positions: Renate Knauer transforms natural forms into wearable jewelry sculptures, while Mathias Wolf constructs spaces with threads that oscillate between drawing, relief, and installation. Forms become traces, materials become image carriers, and light becomes an essential component of the aesthetic experience.
For art enthusiasts, the exhibition offers direct access to contemporary object art. The presentation is suitable for open contemplation of the works as well as for discussions about artistic styles, material choices, space, and the relationship between art and nature.
Conclusion: Free Admission to a Poetic Intermediate World
Visitors can expect an atmospheric art experience with luminous jewelry objects, mysterious natural motifs, and finely spun spatial visions. Anyone wanting to experience contemporary art, sculpture, installation, and extraordinary material experiments up close should definitely visit the exhibition on November 14, 2026, at the Cultural Center abraxas.
