Gismo Graf Trio brings virtuoso Gypsy Jazz to Augsburg
On November 16, 2026, the Gismo Graf Trio will perform in the foyer of the Augsburger Puppenkiste. Starting at 8:30 PM, the ensemble combines the elegance of European Gypsy Jazz with modern stage energy, creating an intense concert experience in a unique atmosphere.
Guitar sound between Django Reinhardt and the present
At the center is Gismo Graf, who began playing guitar at the age of six and early on was inspired by Django Reinhardt. Together with his father Joschi Graf on rhythm guitar and bassist Joel Locher, he developed a distinctive sound that connects the tradition of Gypsy Swing with contemporary dynamics.
Virtuosity, groove, and musical precision
The trio thrives on fast runs, bouncy rhythm, and a finely tuned synchronization of the instruments. The orchestral effect is achieved without a large ensemble: melody, accompaniment, and double bass interlock, while improvised passages in the stage performance provide constant new twists. The warm sound of the guitars meets the pulsating double bass, making the music feel immediate and physical.
International experience on the Augsburg stage
The Gismo Graf Trio has toured through Germany, Europe, and the USA and has appeared at renowned jazz and Gypsy Jazz festivals. Their repertoire and musical profile include original compositions as well as explorations of Django Reinhardt’s legacy. Albums like Absolutely Gypsy, Modus Vivendi, The Django Reinhardt Memorial Concert, and A Trio's Decade document the development of the ensemble.
