Life Storms in the Park Theater: Two Pianos, an Extraordinary Sound Cosmos

On Sunday, November 22, 2026, the Park Theater in the Kurhaus Göggingen invites you to the second concert of the series Augsburg Nuremberg Chamber Concerts. Evgenia Rubinova and Michail Lifits will create a piano evening that combines the energy of four-hand piano music with the orchestral expanse of two pianos.

When Four Hands Form a Sound Body

At the center is Franz Schubert's Allegro in A minor D 947 with the programmatic subtitle Life Storms. The work unfolds dramatic movements, rhythmic tension, and great melodic arcs. Rubinova and Lifits approach this music with precise synchronization, differentiated articulation, and a keen sense of balance between pianistic virtuosity and chamber music dialogue.

Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Color on the Piano

Sergei Rachmaninoff shapes the evening with his Suite No. 2 in C major op. 17 and the Srinphonic Dances op. 45 in an arrangement for two pianos. The arrangements directly transfer orchestral colors onto the keyboard: powerful chords, dance impulses, and lyrical lines meet a highly concentrated stage performance. The sound arises not from volume alone but from orchestration, clear voice leading, and carefully set dynamic contrasts.

Mozart and the Art of Shared Breath

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Andante with Variations in G major KV 501 for four hands sets a brighter counterpoint. Every nuance counts here: a shared breath, finely tuned phrasing, and the elegance of musical conversation. Between Schubert, Mozart, and Rachmaninoff, a varied tension arc emerges from classical clarity to late romantic sound fullness.
